The Safeguards Behind GiftMe

GiftMe gives people a simple way to create a fundraising page, share their story and receive donations through Stripe. Because people rely on these pages, we’ve added thoughtful safeguards behind the scenes to help keep GiftMe reliable, secure and running smoothly.

Your page stays yours

When someone makes changes to a fundraising page, GiftMe checks that they are signed in and that the campaign belongs to them.

This helps make sure changes can only be made by the person responsible for that fundraising page.

Looking after donation details

Important information connected with receiving donations is carefully protected.

Payment settings are handled through protected parts of GiftMe, helping make sure campaign and payment details remain accurate and cannot simply be changed through normal website activity.

A little extra care around payments

GiftMe has safeguards around repeated unsuccessful payment attempts.

If unusual or repeated unsuccessful payment activity is detected, further attempts may be temporarily limited. This helps protect the payment process while still allowing genuine donors to try again later.

Payments themselves are securely handled through Stripe.

Keeping things running smoothly

Campaign information is accessed through GiftMe’s controlled backend, where requests can be checked and limited.

GiftMe also controls how much information can be retrieved at once. These measures help the service manage its resources responsibly and continue operating reliably when activity increases.

Taking a little break when needed

GiftMe monitors activity reaching its backend and has safeguards for unusually high levels of traffic.

If one of GiftMe’s safety limits is reached, the website can automatically switch to its animated “GiftMe is taking a little break” maintenance screen and temporarily pause normal website activity.

GiftMe remains in maintenance until the relevant limits reset or its allowance is increased, provided its other safety checks also allow the website to reopen.

Keeping an eye on running costs

GiftMe also monitors cloud spending reports provided by Google.

If reported spending reaches GiftMe’s configured safety budget, a separate safeguard can place the website into maintenance mode. This works alongside GiftMe’s traffic protections to provide another layer of financial protection.

Cloud spending information can be delayed, so this safeguard is designed to reduce the risk of unexpected costs rather than guarantee an exact spending ceiling.

Managing how much GiftMe can process

GiftMe places restrictions on how far its guarded backend services can automatically expand.

This helps control the amount of work the service can process during unusually high activity and reduces the possibility of resources growing without restriction. Some requests and other cloud services can still generate charges.

Valid Stripe notifications can continue to be processed for payments already underway, helping genuine payment records remain up to date even while GiftMe is in maintenance.

A few layers of care behind the scenes

Rather than relying on a single safeguard, GiftMe uses several protections together.

These include page ownership checks, protected payment information, payment-attempt safeguards, controlled database access, traffic protections, spending monitoring, maintenance mode and limits on backend processing.

Together, these measures help GiftMe remain a reliable place for people to tell their story, raise money and receive support.

These safeguards provide meaningful layers of protection for GiftMe, its fundraisers and the people supporting them.
